Welcome to mimoZine™ Issue #6, bringing you the heat from the street!
In our Summer ’09 issue, mimoZine takes you on a guided tour of some of today’s pop-culture conversations – phenomena that is obscure, cult, occasionally mainstream, but always fresh & fulfilling.
Our program begins with an exploration of the phenomenon behind “The Room,” aka, The Best, Worst Movie Ever Made! If you haven’t seen it, shame on you – but we’ve got your back with a video of Wiseau-ian proportions.
Summer session also brings an inside look at art toy and apparel heavyweight, Kidrobot. MimoZine correspondent, the Super Sucklord, talks with the man behind the company, Paul Budnitz, and his Kidrobot crew. We’ve also got an exclusive interview with David Horvath, creator of Uglydoll and the self-centered, but extremely lovable Bossy Bear. Oh yeah, it’s also the 50th anniversary of Miles Davis’ masterpiece, Kind of Blue. Watch and enjoy. You may learn a thing or two.
The Room by Tommy Wiseau, has been called many things: confusing, inspired awfulness, genius. But in reality, The Room defies description. It can be found everywhere these days from Fox News to Tim & Eric on Adult Swim. People can’t seem to stop getting enough of this amazing cinematic achievement.
It has inspired a loyal following (bordering on fanaticism), and has been playing to rowdy & rabid sold-out midnight screenings for over 5 years. In this digital age, The Room is a unique analog film experience, bringing its die-hard legion of fans out to movie theaters across the country for monthly midnight screenings.
Fans ourselves, we set out to explore the phenomenon with our own senseless sensibilities. We talked to Michael Rousselet the man-boy screenwriter who was one of early ‘discoverers’ of The Room and started some of the 1st interactive screenings. We also met with actor Greg Sestero (famous for playing “Marc” in the movie) who gave us an inside perspective on the making of The Room.
mimoZine sat down with Uglydoll Bossy Bear creator, as well as the latest MIMOBOT Artist Series collaborator, David Horvath.
Sitting on a comfy chair at the children’s bookstore, Every Picture Tells a Story in Santa Monica. seemed to bring out the warm and fuzzy in Horvath. It was the perfect way to get to know this prolifice toy and storybook creator, and his newest character creation, blue egocentric Bossy Bear!
