Computer crash wiped out your data? Blame it on some alien life form sucking your hard drive's memory, if you must. Hopefully you've learned a lesson and are finally backing up your precious information. Now you can let those little space aliens work for you rather than against you. Mimobots, claiming to be creatures from the planet blooh (located in Galaxy 4210), are actually amazing-looking portable flash drives, adding some style to your USB port while giving you some peace of mind. $69.95 www.mimoco.comPosted by mimoco at 11:20 PM January 21, 2006penthouse: be@rbrick, qees, mimobot
These "designer toys" were all conceived by individual artists, have a unique style, and come in limited quantities. One of the newest, Mimobot, is certainly cool-looking, but it's also useful. Inside each of the eight different characters is a flash drive whose size ranges from 256 megabytes to one gigabyte... These computer critters feature the designs of Mexican artist Yahid Rodriguez and, at a little over two inches, they're smaller than a pack of gum. Though you'll be paying almost twice as much ($69.95 to $139.95) for these monsters as you would for a standard flash drive, the benefits are worth it. The Mimobots come with nine exclusive songs from drum-and-bass DJ DB, and feature a locking mechanism that ensures you won't lose the "top" of your flash drive. Up to 1,000 of each Mimobot will be produced, so unless you grab them soon, you'll have to wait for the next series, designed by a new set of artists. "Peanut butter and jelly. Rice and beans. Collectible figures and flash drives? Mimoco's figure drive has arrived. Plug it in, and the butt lights up! The memory drive, which comes in different memory sizes, gets the thumbs-up from Devil Robots' Shinichiro Kitai, and this piece has a strong Takashi Murakami influence. But in the end, this won't do anything to change the perception that toys are for geeks."
"Calling all Flash-y collectors: mimobots are here!...but in limited quantities. These 2-inch designer flash memory drives from mimoco; the Cosmos and goSeries (ta2b is featured here) are designed by Yahid "Serial Killer" Rodriguez, and are available in 256MB, 512MB, and 1GB [and 2GB](Hi-Speed USB 2.0) capabilities. These playful ports are loaded with bonus material, like DJ DB's exclusive mix on the Cosmos series. Future releases are slated to include animation and games."
